When you get a new kitten, you want to make sure that they have everything that they possibly need to be well taken care of. While you may think of the common things that your kitten may need like a bed, litter box, food bowl, water, bowl, etc., you may not think of other important things that your kitten really needs as well. Flea and Tick Collar
If your kitten is going to be spending any time outside, or if it spent time outside before you brought it home, it is very important that you get it a flea and tick collar. This collar will prevent more fleas and ticks from climbing onto your cat and burrowing into their fur. It will also get rid of any fleas or tickets that your kitten already has because of the medicine that is all over the collar. Most flea collars work well for about 90 days, so after this period of time you will need to replace your kitten's flea collar if they are still outside regularly.
Scratch Post
Since your kitten will have sharp claws that they like to scratch on things and sharpen, it is best to get them something to scratch them on. If you fail to buy anything for them to use, they will end up using your furniture, rugs, tables, and anything that they can find to scratch their claws on. Since this can be incredibly damaging, it is something that should be avoided. Your pet supply store will have a variety of scratching posts for your to choose from. These posts are generally made out of wood or incredibly thick cardboard, and are covered in carpet. Your kitten will love scratching their claws on this post, and will use it for many years to come.
Pet Cleaning Supplies
Because animals make messes just like humans, it is important to get some pet cleaning supplies from your pet supply store to clean up after them. You will want to get some carpet and hardwood floor pet cleaner for when your kitten either has a bathroom accident or vomits on the floor. This cleaner will not only remove the stain on the floor, but will also remove the smell. It is also smart to get disinfecting cleaners and/or wipes for your tables, countertops, and other surfaces that you eat on, just in case your kitten jumps up on these surfaces with dirty paws.
